Introduction

Background of Standard Revision and Technological Evolution

This revision is more than 30 years after the 1993 version of the standard was first issued, mainly in response to the new waterway operation needs of the Panama Canal. With the trend of larger ships, the original standard mid-deck two-side platform type is no longer suitable for modern pilotage operations. The new standard focuses on the design of the detachable awning platform on both sides of the cab.

Material selection case

When a 180,000-ton bulk carrier project selected aluminum alloy patterned plate footboard, it was necessary to drill water holes on the edge according to standard requirements to prevent water accumulation and slip accidents.

Electrochemical corrosion protection

The steel-aluminum contact surface must be padded with vulcanized tape. Because a shipyard did not strictly implement this clause, contact corrosion occurred on the platform pillars after 6 months.


Inspection and certification process

  1. Type inspection: must be performed when it involves factory transfer or material change
  2. Factory inspection: full inspection of assembly dimensions and anti-corrosion treatment
  3. On-site acceptance: focus on verifying the ≤250mm spacing requirement between the platform and the bulwark

Transportation and storage specifications

  • Covered with rainproof cloth during transportation

  • Prohibited from storage in the same warehouse with acidic substances
