Scope

This standard specifies the use conditions, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and markings of metal oxide voltage limiters (hereinafter referred to as voltage limiters or MOVs) for series compensation devices in AC transmission systems. This standard applies to porcelain jacket and composite jacket MOV. The main function of MOV is to limit the overvoltage generated on the series compensation capacitor bank due to power system faults.
