Introduction

Standard Background and Technological Evolution

As an industry recommended standard issued by the Ministry of Public Security, this standard systematically regulates the requirements for the installation of traffic barriers in response to prominent traffic order issues in the process of urbanization. Compared with the local standards in the early 2000s, its technical evolution is mainly reflected in:

Core term analysis

Motor vehicle isolation fence: including central isolation fence (clear height ≥1.1m) and same-direction lane isolation fence (clear height ≥0.6m), a typical example is the combined steel guardrail used on Chang'an Avenue in Beijing.

Motor vehicle isolation fence: suitable for non-motor vehicle lanes with a width of ≥1.5m, such as the low separation fence used on Nanjing Road in Shanghai.


Key technical requirements

4.1.6 Reflective warning devices

Must meet the following requirements: GB/T 18833 retroreflection coefficient requirements, and:

  • Intermediate section spacing ≤ 6m
  • Warning columns need to be installed at the ends (GA/T 1246)

4.2.6 Intersection gradient treatment

The clear height is reduced from 1.1m to 0.7m through a 15m gradient section to avoid sudden changes in the driver's line of sight, see the diagram in Appendix A.3.


Implementation recommendations

Road type: Dual six-lane trunk roads must be equipped with a central isolation barrier, dual two-lane roads should not be equipped with one

Material selection: It is recommended to use a polyethylene composite material guardrail that complies with CECS 176-2005

Maintenance cycle: Check the effectiveness of the reflective device every quarter, and the annual damage rate should be <3%
