Introduction
1. Background and significance of the standard
Crown caps are key components of food packaging such as beer and beverages, and their quality directly affects the sealing and user experience of the product. The GB/T13521-2016 standard replaces the previous GB/T13521-1992 version, and mainly optimizes the definition, size deviation, material requirements and sealing performance of bottle caps.
2. Comparison of standard frameworks
| Standard dimensions | Requirements of the 1992 version | Updated in the 2016 version |
|---|---|---|
| Definition of bottle cap | Specific structure and purpose are not specified | Detailed definition of crown bottle cap is added (see 3.1) |
| Dimension deviation | Basically covers the main dimensions | Gasket material requirements and special dimension negotiation mechanism are added |
| Sealing performance | Only instantaneous pressure resistance is required | Added carbon dioxide leakage detection (see 5.5.3) |
3. Interpretation of the main contents of the standard
Product structure:The bottle cap consists of a base and a gasket, and is suitable for bottle mouths that meet the requirements of QB/T3729. The technical requirements for base thickness (S), outer diameter (D), inner diameter (d) and cap height (H) are clearly stated in the structural diagram.
Material requirements:Electroplated tin thin steel sheet or electroplated chrome thin steel sheet is used, and the technical indicators must comply with GB/T2520 and GB/T24180. The gasket material must be odorless and meet hygiene standards.
Sealing performance test:A new method for detecting carbon dioxide leakage has been added. The specific steps include:Injecting hydrochloric acid solution into the bottle, adding sodium bicarbonate and sealing it for 7 days, and then measuring the CO2 pressure change.
4. Implementation Suggestions
- Manufacturers: Strictly select raw materials and production processes in accordance with standards and establish a complete quality inspection system.
- Inspection agencies: It is recommended to equip special gauges and sealing test equipment to ensure that key parameters meet the requirements.
- User feedback: Pay attention to the pressure resistance and sealing of the bottle cap in actual use, and promptly feedback abnormal situations for improvement.

This standard is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 13521-1992 Crown cap. The following technical changes have been made with respect to GB/T 13521-1992:
——The definition of cap is modified (see Clause 3);
——The requirements for basic dimensions and deviations of caps are revised (see 5.2);
——The test methods for tightness and instantaneous pressure resistance are modified (see 5.5.3);
——Cap gasket materials such as polyethylene are added (see 5.4.2 and 6.3);
——The classification of the premium grade and qualified grade for caps are deleted.
This standard was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee 49 on Packaging of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 49).
The previous edition of this standard is as follows:
——GB/T 13521-1992.
Crown cap
1 Scope
This standard specifies the dimensions, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and marking, packaging, transport and storage of crown caps made of electrolytic tinplate (or electrolytic chromium/chromium oxide coated steel sheet) for food packaging such as beer and beverage (hereinafter referred to as "caps").
This standard is applicable to the caps for sealing finishes which meet the requirements of QB/T 3729. This standard may also serve as a reference for the caps for sealing finishes for containers made of other materials.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
