Unified numbering system for designation of iron, steel and alloy

1 Scope

This standard specifies the general requirements, structural types, classification and grouping, coding rules, compilation and management of the unified numerical codes for designations of iron, steel and alloy products (referred to as "ISC").

This standard is applicable to the compilation of ISCs for designations of iron, steel and alloy products. For any iron, steel and alloy products listed in national standards and professional standards, their product designation and ISC shall be included in such standards at the same time, and both are in reference to each other, and both methods of representation are valid.

2 Normative references

The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 General requirements

3.1 The product classification, definitions and product designation names used in this standard shall conform to the relevant requirements of the standards listed in Clause 2.

3.2 An ISC consists of a fixed six-digit symbol. The left first digit is prefixed with a capitalized Latin letter (usually "I" and "O" are not used), followed by five Arabic numerals, with no gap between the letter and numerals.

3.3 Each ISC applies to only one product designation; conversely, each product designation corresponds to only one ISC. When a product designation is canceled, the corresponding ISC is no longer assigned to any other product designation in general.

4 Structural types

The structure of the ISC is as follows:

5 Classification and grouping

5.1 The classification and grouping of iron, steel and alloy are mainly based on their basic composition, characteristics and uses, taking into account the existing customary classification methods in China and the actual number of various product designations.

5.2 The classification, grouping and sequential numbering of iron, steel and alloy shall have certain spare empty digits by taking full account of the development of various kinds of iron, steel and alloy and the emergence of new materials.

5.3 See Table 1 for the types of iron, steel and alloy and the ISC and representation method for each type of product designation.

6 Coding rules

6.1 Alloy structural steels

6.1.1 The ISCs of alloy structural steels are in the form of A×××××. Alloy structural steels mainly include alloy structural steel and alloy spring steel, but do not include alloy steel for welding (see 6.15), alloy cast steel (see 6.3) and powder metallurgy alloy structural steel (see 6.10).

6.1.2 See Table 2 for the representation method of ISCs of alloy structural steels.

6.2 Bearing steels

6.2.1 The ISCs of bearing steels are in the form of B×××××. Bearing steels mainly include high-carbon chromium bearing steel, carburized bearing steel, high temperature bearing steel (including high temperature carburized bearing steel), stainless bearing steel, carbon bearing steel, non-magnetic bearing steel, and graphite bearing steel.

6.2.2 See Table 3 for the representation method of ISCs of bearing steels.

6.3 Cast iron, cast steel and cast alloy

6.3.1 The ISCs of cast iron, cast steel and cast alloy are in the form of C×××××. This kind of materials mainly include cast iron, unalloy cast steel, low alloy cast steel, alloy cast steel, stainless heat resisting cast steel, permanent-magnet cast steel and alloy, and heat resisting and corrosion resisting cast alloy

6.3.2 See Table 4 for the representation method of ISCs of cast iron, and Table 5 for that of ISCs of cast steel and cast alloy.

6.4 Electrical steel and iron

6.4.1 The ISCs of electrical steel and iron are in the form of E×××××. This kind of steel and iron mainly include electromagnetic iron, cold-rolled non-oriented silicon steel, cold-rolled oriented silicon steel, and non-magnetic steel.

6.4.2 See Table 6 for the representation method of ISCs of electrical steel and iron.

6.5 Ferro alloy and pig iron

6.5.1 The ISCs of ferro alloy and pig iron are in the form of F×××××. Ferro alloys include ferromanganese and its alloy (including manganese metal), ferrosilicon and its alloy, ferrochrome and its alloy, ferrovanadium, ferrotitanium, ferroniobium and its alloy, rare earth ferro alloy, ferromolybdenum, ferrotungsten and its alloy, ferroboron, ferrophosphorus and its alloy; pig iron includes pig iron for steelmaking, foundry pig iron, foundry pig iron with higher spheroidal graphite matrix manganese, pig iron for spheroidal graphite foundry, P-Cu-Ti low alloy wear-resistant pig iron for foundry, grained iron with decarbonizing and lower phosphor, low carbon foundry pig iron, and alloy pig iron.

6.5.2 See Table 7 for the representation me
