1 Scope
This standard specifies the methods and basic requirements for field efficacy plot trial for the herbicides against weeds in orchard.
This standard is applicable to the field efficacy plot trial and efficacy evaluation registered for herbicides against weeds in apple, pear, citrus, peach, plum, cherry, apricot, olive, almond, litchi, longan, chestnut and other orchards as well as nut (including hazelnut) orchards. Other field efficacy trials shall be carried out in reference to this standard.
2 Trial conditions
2.1 Selection of crops and cultivars
Record the type of orchard and the cultivated form. The fruit species and stocks under trial shall be representatively conventional varieties in the local area, or the varieties required by the agreement. Record the names of the species.
2.2 Selection of weeds as the trial subject
In the orchard under trial, there shall be the representative weed populations, uniformly distributed, and the weed colony must be composed of the weeds which the herbicide under trial is to prevent and control (annual and perennial grass, sedge and broadleaf grass), with their Chinese names and Latin names recorded.
2.3 Cultivation conditions
The farming conditions (soil type, organic matter content, pH value, soil moisture content, fertility, and tillage) of all trial plots must be uniform and consistent with local good agricultural practice (GAP). The orchards shall have consistent tree ages, cultivars and stocks. Unless the label or agreement specifies the time for the trial pesticide to be used in the orchard, the trial shall be conducted at the beginning of each growing season. It is advisable to carry out trials in orchards with high tree densities. Note that the root suckers may affect the selection of the products under trial.
3 Trial design and arrangement
3.1 Pesticides
3.1.1 Trial pesticide
Indicate the trade name/code, Chinese name, generic name, dosage form content and the manufacturer of the trial pesticide. The trial pesticide shall be applied in four dosages of high, medium, low, and twice medium (which is set to evaluate the safety of the trial pesticide to the fruit trees), or according to the agreement (the trial agreement signed between the trial entrusting party and the trial undertaker).
3.1.2 Control pesticide
The control pesticide must be a product that has been registered and is fairly safe and efficacious in practice. The type and mode of application of the control pesticide shall be similar to those of the trial pesticide and the local usual dosage and treatment method shall be used, which may be determined by the purpose of the trial in special case. Manual weeding and blank control are arranged.
