1 Scope

This Standard specifies the methods for determination of formaldehyde concentration in air of public places.
This Standard is applicable to the determination of formaldehyde concentration in air of public places.

Method I MBTH Spectrophotometric Method

2 Principle

Formaldehyde in the air and 3-methyl-2-benzothiazolinone hydrazone hydrochloride (MBTH) react to form azine and the azine is oxidized by ferric ion in acid solution to form blue-green compound. Colorimetric assay is conducted according to color shade.

3 Reagent

Water adopted in this method is redistilled water or deionized exchange water, and the reagent adopted is analytically pure.
