Vehicle identification number bar-code label

1 Scope

This document specifies the types and requirements for vehicle identification number (VIN) bar-code label.

This document is applicable to a permanent label that can automatically identify the vehicle identification number by the bar-code.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB 16735, GB/T 25978 and the following apply.

bar-code reader
equipment that is generally composed of a non-contact scanner, a decoder and a data converter, and used to read bar-codes

3.2
check
comparison of the size and optical properties of the bar-code with the specified requirements by machine or manual method

3.3
measurement/analysis
obtaining the actual size of the bar-code and verifying whether it meets the requirements

4 Classification

See Figure 1 for the type of label. On the vehicle, in order to facilitate the use of the bar-code reader, the vehicle identification number (VIN) bar-code label shall be secured in an easily scannable position.
