Introduction
Interpretation of the core content of the standard
GB/T 18779.6-2020, as an important part of the product geometry technical specification (GPS) system, expands the default judgment rules of GB/T 18779.1 and proposes economic optimization solutions that are suitable for different industrial scenarios. The standard introduces the concept of protection zone to construct a continuous judgment rule system from strict acceptance to loose acceptance.

Key technical parameters
The process capability index Cp and measurement capability index Cm defined in the standard are the key basis for selecting the judgment rule:
- Cp=T/(6σp): reflects the accuracy of the manufacturing process, σp is the standard deviation of the process distribution
- Cm=T/(4σm): characterizes the capability of the measurement system, σm is the measurement uncertainty
The example shows that when Cp=1 and Cm=4, the strict acceptance rule with 100%U protection band can reduce the probability of accepting defective products to 0.00002.
Economic decision model
The standard provides a systematic cost analysis method to quantify the economic benefits of different decision rules by constructing a profit matrix. Key elements include:
- Profit of accepting qualified products
- Cost of accepting unqualified products
- Loss of rejecting qualified products
- Cost of rejecting unqualified products
For safety-critical components (Example F), the cost of accepting unqualified products can be up to 50 times the production cost. At this time, strict acceptance rules can achieve the best economic benefits.

- Prioritize improving the Cp value by improving the manufacturing process
- The measurement system should meet the basic requirement of Cm≥4
- Safety-critical parts use ≥100%U protection belt
