Introduction


The Standard GB/T 19609-2024 was jointly issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, National Health Commission, and State Administration for Market Regulation on September 29th, 2024. This standard aims to provide a detailed methodology for measuring total particulate matter (TPM) and tar in cigarettes using conventional smoking machines under standardized conditions. Effective as of January 1st, 2025, this document serves to ensure the accuracy and uniformity of analytical data across different laboratories and testing institutions.


The standardization process involved extensive research and validation by industry experts and regulatory bodies to establish precise parameters for machine smoking techniques that reflect realistic human smoking behavior.
