Introduction

In-depth interpretation of the national standard GB/T 20810—2018 Toilet Paper (including toilet paper base paper)

I. Background of standard formulation and analysis of technological evolution

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1—2009 and replaces GB/T 20810—2006 "Toilet Paper (including toilet paper base paper)". Compared with the old version, the main technical changes include:

  • Adjusted product classification (see Chapter 4)
  • Added ash content, migratable fluorescent substance, heavy metal content, spherical burst resistance, dispersibility, powder loss rate indicators and related test methods
  • Adjusted the requirements for brightness, tensile index, softness and dustiness deviation indicators
  • Modified and improved the test methods for quantification, tensile index and softness

II. Standard Framework Comparison Table

Chapter Content Requirements of the 2006 Edition New Requirements of the 2018 Edition
Product Classification Mainly classified by purpose and raw materials New categories of virgin mixed pulp and recycled pulp
Technical indicators Includes basic indicators such as brightness and tensile index Added heavy metal content, microbial indicators, etc.
Test methods Adopt traditional laboratory testing Introduced an appendix to describe in detail the dispersibility and powder loss rate determination methods

III. Interpretation of core indicators and practical application cases

1. Quantity (g/m²)

Quantity is an important indicator for measuring the thickness of toilet paper, which directly affects the durability and comfort of the product. For example, the quantitative requirement for superior products is ≥24.0 g/m², while that for qualified products is ≥12.0 g/m². Consumers can choose products that suit their needs by checking the quantitative parameters on the product packaging.

2. Softness (mN)

Softness reflects the comfort of paper. The requirement for superior products is ≥200 mN, while that for qualified products is ≥450 mN. It is worth noting that the softness test needs to be carried out under standard atmospheric conditions and avoid embossed or folded parts.

IV. Implementation Suggestions

  1. Manufacturers:Establish a complete quality control system and strictly screen raw materials and control the production process in accordance with standard requirements. It is recommended to equip professional testing equipment, such as a spherical bursting strength tester.
  2. Inspection agencies:Carry out sampling inspections in accordance with GB/T 2828.1, focusing on microbial indicators and heavy metal content. Unqualified products should be dealt with in a timely manner, and detailed problem analysis should be fed back to the manufacturer.
  3. Regulatory authorities: Strengthen market supervision and regularly check the quality of toilet paper products in the circulation field. Focus on the product compliance of small and medium-sized manufacturers.
  4. Consumers: When purchasing, pay attention to whether the packaging marks are complete, especially the product grade and implementation standard number. For dyed or printed products, pay attention to their powder loss rate indicators.

V. Appendix and precautions for standard implementation

1. The microbial detection methods involved in the standard are highly professional and are recommended to be implemented by qualified third-party inspection agencies.

2. During the detection process, attention should be paid to maintaining the representativeness of the sample, especially in the sampling and processing links.
