Introduction
Interpretation of GB/T 21149—2019, the National Standard of the People's Republic of China
Background and Significance of the Standard
As an important material for building roofs, the quality of sintered tiles directly affects the durability and aesthetics of buildings. GB/T 21149—2019 replaces the old version GB/T 21149—2007, and has made important updates mainly in classification, performance requirements and test methods.
This standard was proposed by the China Building Materials Federation and is applicable to sintered tile products used for building roof covering and decoration. The background of its formulation is to meet the demand of the construction industry for high-performance roofing materials and to optimize it in combination with the latest technological developments.
Comparison of main changes
| Old version GB/T 21149—2007 | New version GB/T 21149—2019 |
|---|---|
| Unclear classification requirements | Added definition and requirements for flat tiles |
| Low bending resistance index | Increase the bending resistance index of three-curved tiles, double-barreled tiles to not less than 10.0 MPa |
| Lack of quick freezing method and salt resistance test | New quick freezing method, salt resistance and acid and alkali resistance test methods |
Detailed interpretation of the standard
1. Classification and labeling
Based on the shape, surface state and water absorption rate, sintered tiles are divided into multiple categories and grades:
- Flat tile: Common roof laying type, with high bending resistance.
- Ridge tile: Used on the edge of the roof, requiring higher wind and frost resistance.
- Triple curved tile: Due to its special curved shape, it is suitable for different architectural styles.
The marking method is: Variety-Grade-Specification-G Standard Number, for example: Green tile IA 180×180 GB/T 21149—2019
2. Dimensional tolerance and appearance quality
Dimensional tolerance is divided into multiple grades according to product specifications, with a maximum deviation range of ±6 mm (qualified products). Appearance quality requirements include no obvious defects such as glaze loss, cracks and color difference.
| Product Category | Superior Product | Qualified Product |
|---|---|---|
| Flat Tile | ±4 mm | ±5 mm |
| Ridge Tile | ±3 mm | ±4 mm |
3. Physical Performance Requirements
Physical properties include water absorption, bending resistance, frost resistance and salt resistance:
- Water absorption: Class I tile ≤6.0%, Class II tile 6.0%~10.0%, Class III tile 10.0%~18.0%
- Bending resistance: Flat tile ≥1200 N, three-curved tile ≥10.0 MPa
- Frost resistance: No obvious damage after 15 cycles of slow freezing method and 100 cycles of fast freezing method
- Salt resistance: After 40 cycles, the weight loss of the sample is ≤0.4g
4. Test methods and inspection rules
The test methods follow GB/T 3810.1 and GB/T 9195, including sampling, dimensional deviation test and physical performance test. The inspection rules are divided into factory inspection and type inspection to ensure that the product quality meets the standard requirements.
Suggestions for the implementation of the standard
- Manufacturers should establish a sound quality management system and strictly follow the standard for production and inspection.
- Architects should choose the appropriate type and grade of tiles according to the specific project requirements when selecting materials.
- Construction parties should follow the installation requirements in the standard to ensure the quality and durability of roofing.
