Scope

This standard describes the performance characteristics of AC motors powered by inverters, and specifies the design features of inverter-specific motors. This standard also specifies the interface parameters and interactions between the motor and the inverter as part of the electric drive system, including installation guidelines, but does not include the voltage at the power interface, which is described by IECTS61800-8. The general requirements of other relevant parts of the IEC60034 series of standards also apply to the motors within the scope of this standard. If the motor operates in a potentially explosive gas environment, IEC600795 series or IEC61241 series have additional requirements for dust explosion protection. Security is not the main content of this standard, but some of the recommendations it gives involve security issues that must be considered. If the inverter manufacturer gives specific installation recommendations, it is advisable to give priority to its recommendations, and then refer to this standard.
