Scope

This standard applies to the classification of magnetic materials produced in large quantities. "Magnetic material" means a substance that is required to be ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic in an application. In this standard, the classification of magnetic materials is based on the recognized two main types of products: ——soft magnetic materials (coercive force≤1000A/m);——permanent (hard) magnetic materials (coercive force>1000A/m) ; within these main categories, the following properties can be discerned when the classification is justified: - the principal alloying elements, metallurgical state and physical properties of the material; - where possible and convenient, the interrelationships between these properties can be identified. Classification by specific application areas is not suitable for all materials, since different materials are often used for the same application depending on their required properties.
