Scope

This standard describes the determination of acoustic quantities, in particular the type and location of sound pressure level measurements to be made, the time sampling and frequency analysis required, and the special characteristics of the measured noise that should be taken into account, in order to be able to evaluate The various impacts of noise on the workers who are habitually exposed to the environment on a daily basis. This standard is intended for use by relevant authorities responsible for determining and monitoring compliance with noise limits in the workplace and determining the need for hearing conservation programs and noise reduction measures. The standard itself does not prescribe or recommend acceptable noise limits. While the bibliography includes references to statistical sampling methods, the standard does not prescribe statistical sampling methods for describing population noise exposure. The standard describes the application of the measurement results to the effects of noise on hearing, conversation disturbance and other noise effects, and includes specific requirements for describing infrasound and ultrasound exposure. Appendix A summarizes the application of the standard to the impact of noise on health, productivity, comfort and audibility of alarm signals. Appendix B gives a calculation example of the continuous equivalent A-weighted sound pressure level. Appendix C discusses the calculation of the evaluation sound level including pure tone and impulse noise corrections. Appendix D specifies the noise measurement accuracy levels
