Introduction

1. Background of standard formulation and analysis of technological evolution

The National Standard of the People's Republic of China GB/T 21679-2023 "Specifications for the Construction of Forensic Science DNA Databases" was released in 2023, replacing the old version of 2008. The standard mainly revised and improved the terminology, technical requirements, and security management of DNA databases. With the advancement of criminal science and technology and the increasing importance of network security, the new standard adds definitions of key terms such as mitochondrial DNA and short tandem repeats (STRs), and clarifies the technical framework for the construction of DNA databases.

2. Comparison of standard frameworks
