Key requirements for instruments and equipment

The standard specifies the specifications of two types of distillation flasks: Type I (150mL) for benzene and pyridine, and Type II (200mL) for phenol and quinoline. Thermometers must comply with the provisions of YB/T2305, including:

  • COK7C type: dedicated to phenols, measuring range 180-230℃
  • COK21C type: dedicated to crude benzene, measuring range 50-210℃

Key points of test operation

Benzene sample detection case

Take light benzene detection as an example: use upper diameter measuring cylinder to measure 100mL of sample and control the distillation speed to 4-5mL/min. When the distillate reaches 96mL, the final distillation point reading must be accurately controlled within 2-2.5min. If the distillation loss exceeds 1.5%, a retry is required.


Application of calculation formula

Added atmospheric pressure correction formula: Δt3=0.0009(273+tA)(101.3-p), where p needs to be converted to standard atmospheric pressure through formula (7). The amount of crude benzene distilled before 180℃ is calculated as X=(m1/m)×100%, rounded to 1 decimal place.


Implementation suggestions

  1. Establish an instrument calibration account, focusing on the calibration of different diameter measuring cylinders
  2. Different product categories strictly correspond to the K value calculation formula in the appendix
  3. Quinoline dehydration requires three-stage treatment with solid potassium hydroxide
