Scope

This standard specifies the software engineering development methodology meta-model. The metamodel establishes a formal framework for defining and extending development methodologies for information-based domains (IBDs) such as software, business, or systems, including three main aspects: the processes followed, the processes used and generated products, and the people and tools involved. This metamodel can be used as a formal basis for defining and extending any IBD development method and any associated metamodel, and is typically used by method engineers in undertaking such definition and extension tasks. The meta-model neither depends on nor rigidly limits any specific approach of the IBD development method, but is actually general enough to be suitable for any specific approach, such as object-oriented, agent-oriented, component-based development, etc.
