Scope

This standard specifies the test method for measuring the characteristic longitudinal friction value of pavement using standard reference test tires or tires of test vehicles; specifies the general test procedures for determining the peak and slip braking force coefficients on technical test roads and how to Determines the validity of the test in which the pavement conditions are determined and controlled by the user at the time of the test; also specifies procedures and details for the documentation of the test and test pavement conditions. The purpose of this standard is to harmonize the results of tests carried out on different test tracks. The data measured by the standard reference test tire (SRTT) will be used as the standard reference value to characterize the road friction characteristics of passenger car tires when they are driven on test tracks and roads. Certain methods are also applicable to the determination of the frictional properties of test vehicle tires on a test track. This value represents the peak, near-peak or slip braking force coefficient during the test and is not necessarily a fixed value. The values determined with reference tires can be used as benchmark values to characterize certain friction characteristics of test tracks and road surfaces. This standard does not intend to address all safety issues associated with its use.
