Scope
This standard provides guidelines and reference for risk management related to the introduction and release of biological control agents and other beneficial organisms. This standard lists the responsibilities of competent authorities, importers and exporters. This standard discusses natural enemies capable of reproduction (including parasitic natural enemies, predatory natural enemies, parasites, nematodes, weed-feeding natural enemies and pathogens, fungi, bacteria and viruses), and sterile insects and other beneficial organisms, including packaging or formulated commercial products. Also included are import provisions for the study of non-native predators and other beneficial organisms at quarantine facilities. The scope of this standard does not cover living modified organisms, issues related to the registration of biopesticides, or microbial agents intended to control vertebrate pests.
