This standard is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This standard replaces GB/T 3001-2007 Refractory Products - Determination of Modulus of Rupture at Ambient Temperature and has the following main technical changes with respect to GB/T 3001-2007:

——GB/T 4513.5, GB/T 4513.6 and GB/T 7321 are added in "Normative References";

——In loading device, the requirements "the measured breaking load shall not be less than 10% of measuring range and not greater than 90% of measuring range" are cancelled;

——"Shaped products shall be prepared according to GB/T 7321." is added;

——"Unshaped refractory products shall be prepared according to GB/T 4513.5." is added;

——The test piece size of unshaped refractory products shall comply with the relevant provisions of GB/T 4513.6.

This standard has been redrafted and modified in relation to ISO 5014:1997 Dense Insulating Shaped Refractory Products – Determination of Modulus of Rupture at Ambient Temperature.

The following structural adjustments have been made with respect to ISO 5014:1997; comparisons of chapter and article numbers between this standard and ISO 5014:1997 are listed in Annex A.

There are technical deviations with respect to ISO 5014:1997 and the list of technical deviations and their causes is given in Annex B.

This standard was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Refractory Material of Standardization Administration of China.

The previous editions of this standard are as follows:

1 Scope

This standard specifies the principle, apparatus, test piece, procedure, result calculation, test report and the like for the determination of modulus of rupture at ambient temperature of refractory products.

This standard is applicable to shaped and unshaped refractory products.

3 Terms and Definitions

For the purposes of this document, the following term and definition apply.

3.1

modulus of rupture

the maximum stress that a prismatic test piece of specified dimensions can withstand when it is bent in a three-point bending device

4 Principle

At ambient temperature, loading of test pieces of the product to be tested at a constant rate of increase of stress until failure occurs.

5 Apparatus

5.1 Loading device

5.1.1 The loading device shall have three bearing edges, two to support the test piece and one for the application of the load (see Figure 1). The three edges shall have a radius of curvature in accordance with the requirements given in Table 1 and shall be of length not less than 5mm greater than the breadth (b) of the test piece (see Figure 2). The contact lines of the three edges shall be parallel to each other in a direction perpendicular to the length and the plane of the breadth of the test piece. Two supporting edges shall rest on an intermediate bearing piece, cylindrical on its lower surface, so that each edge may rotate independently in a vertical plane to accommodate any slight twist in the test piece (see Figure 2). Alternatively, one supporting edge may be fixed, with the other supporting edge and the load-bearing edge being capable of rotation in a vertical plane. The distance between the two supporting edges shall be in accordance with Table 1 and the load-bearing edge shall be positioned equidistantly, the deviation is less than 2mm from each supporting edge.

5.1.2 The loading device shall be capable of applying a load uniformly across the center of the test piece and of increasing it at a uniform rate. A means shall be provided of recording or indicating the load at failure with an accuracy of ±2%.

5.2 Electrothermal air dry oven

Capable of being controlled at (110±5)℃.

5.3 Vernier caliper

The division value is not greater than 0.05mm.
