3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

3.1

test air flow rate

V

volume of test air passing through the filter section per unit time, expressed in cubic metres per hour (m3/h)

3.2

pressure loss

ΔPd

static pressure difference between the upstream and downstream sides of a filter, expressed in pascals (Pa)

3.3

initial pressure loss

ΔPA

pressure loss on both sides of a new filter or filter element, expressed in pascals (Pa)

3.4

final pressure loss

ΔPE

pressure loss on both sides of a filter or filter element after the dust addition procedure is completed, expressed in pascals (Pa)

3.5

filtration area

A

surface area of a filter or filter element for the purpose of filtration, expressed in square metres, m2

3.6

fractional efficiency

Ef(x)

ability to remove particles of a specified size

3.7

test dust-holding capacity

G

mass of test particulate collected from the test sample at the specified termination conditions (e.g. certain pressure loss) according to the test procedure in 8.3, expressed in grams (g)

4 Test conditions and test materials

4.1 Test conditions

4.1.1 Air condition

The temperature and relative humidity of air entering the air filter shall be (23±3)℃ and (50±2)% respectively. The above temperature and humidity shall be maintained during the whole process of testing the dust-holding capacity G of the filter. See Table D.2 for the summary of test conditions.
