Introduction

Standard Background and Technical Evolution

This standard was developed by the Chinese Academy of Forestry and systematically standardized the identification characteristics of 30 important commercial wood species in Latin America for the first time. Compared with LY/T 1788-2008 "Terms of Wood Properties", it has added microscopic structural indicators such as solid wood longitudinal section atlas and gum duct, filling the gap in tropical wood identification standards.

Comparison of core identification characteristics

Species Pore arrangement Axial parenchyma Air-dry density(g/cm³)
Pattern paint Diffuse porous wood Sparse ring tubular 0.80-1.10
Improteria Diffuse porous wood Plurally winged 0.81-1.01
Purple Heart Suaeda Diffuse-porous wood Wing-shaped and ribbon-shaped >0.80

Analysis of key identification factors

1. Identification of vessel pore types

The standard clearly distinguishes three types of vessel pore arrangements: diffuse-porous wood (such as rubber wood), ring-porous wood and semi-ring-porous wood. Among them, the radially arranged compound vessels (2-4) of Typha serrata are in sharp contrast to the single vessels of Vera wood.

2. Axial parenchyma characteristics

Through the combination of 7 forms such as wing-shaped (balsam pea), wheel-shaped (cod wood), and the visibility of wave marks (such as the obvious ant wood), the identification range can be quickly narrowed down.

Implementation suggestions

  1. Prioritize preliminary screening through heartwood color change (such as the new section of purple heart wood from light brown to purple)
  2. Combined with the three-section observation method to verify the width of wood rays (multiple rows of rays with 2-3 cells are common)
  3. When testing density, pay attention to controlling the moisture content at the 12% benchmark
