GB/T 32784—2016 Standard Interpretation
This standard specifies the method for determining the chromium content in nickel-containing pig iron, using the ammonium persulfate-ammonium ferrous sulfate titration method, which is suitable for the determination of chromium content in the mass fraction range of 0.50%~10.00%.

Method principle and steps
Sample decomposition:The sample is dissolved in hydrochloric acid and nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid is added to remove silicon, and then heated with sulfuric acid-phosphoric acid mixture until white smoke is emitted.
Oxidation process:Use ammonium persulfate to oxidize chromium to hexavalent state, add silver nitrate as a catalyst, and then use manganese sulfate solution to assist oxidation.
Titration steps:After cooling, add indicator (N-phenylated anthranilic acid) and titrate with ammonium ferrous sulfate standard titration solution until bright yellow-green is the end point. If excessive, potassium permanganate needs to be used for back titration.
Implementation Suggestions
In actual operation, it is recommended to:
- Prepare reagents and solutions strictly in accordance with the standards to ensure accurate concentration.
- Use high-precision burettes (GB/T 12805) and volumetric flasks (GB/T 12806) to ensure measurement accuracy.
- Pay attention to the safety of high-temperature operations, especially the handling of sulfuric acid-phosphoric acid mixtures.
- Regularly calibrate instruments and equipment to ensure the reliability of analysis results.
