Introduction

1. Background and significance of the standard

GB/T 33083-2016 "Technical Conditions for Large Carbon Structural Steel Forgings" is an important national standard formulated by China for large carbon structural steel forgings. It is applicable to the ordering, manufacturing and inspection of large carbon structural steel forgings for general use in mechanical products. The standard aims to ensure that the quality of forgings meets the needs of the machinery manufacturing industry and provides detailed ordering requirements, manufacturing processes and technical requirements.

2. Comparison of standard frameworks

Standard dimensions GB/T 33083-2016 International alignment Main improvements
Chemical composition control Table 1 clearly specifies the mass fraction range of elements such as C, Si, and Mn, and allows a certain deviation (as shown in Table 2). Aligned with relevant ISO standards to ensure material consistency. Increased flexibility for special-purpose forgings.
Mechanical property requirements Table 3 specifies the specific values of indicators such as Rm, ReL, and A% according to different grades and heat treatment states. In line with international mechanical manufacturing standards. The performance requirements for different cross-sectional sizes are refined.
Heat treatment process High temperature tempering or normalizing plus tempering are required to ensure uniformity of the structure. Consistent with international mainstream heat treatment technology. Detailed provisions for quenching and tempering treatment are added.

3. Practical application cases

Case: Forging of key components of a large hydropower station

During the construction of a hydropower station, a batch of large carbon structural steel forgings for the main shaft of the turbine were purchased. According to GB/T 33083-2016 standard:

  • Material selection: Select materials with a grade of 45Mn to meet the requirements of high strength and toughness.
  • Inspection: Carry out tensile, impact and hardness tests according to the provisions of Table 3 to ensure Rm≥570MPa, KU2≥27J.
  • Heat treatment: Use normalizing and tempering process to ensure uniformity of organization and stability of performance.

4. Analysis of technical evolution of standards

From GB/T 33083-2016, it can be seen that China has gradually realized the transformation from "imitation" to "independent innovation" in the field of large forgings. In recent years, with the advancement of metallurgical technology and the improvement of detection methods, the requirements for chemical composition control and mechanical properties in the standard have become increasingly stringent, and the sampling position regulations for complex shape forgings have been added.

5. Implementation Suggestions

  1. Ordering stage: The buyer should clarify the technical requirements and provide detailed technical agreements and drawings.
  2. Manufacturing process: The supplier should strictly follow the standards for smelting, forging and heat treatment, and keep good process records.
  3. Inspection stage: Focus on chemical composition analysis and mechanical properties testing to ensure that the data is true and reliable.
  4. Quality traceability: Establish a complete quality traceability system to ensure that each forging can be traced back to the smelting furnace number and forging record.
