Scope

This standard specifies the conversion principles between hardness values and between hardness values and estimated tensile strength values, and provides general rules for the use of conversion tables. The conversion tables in Appendices A to G of this standard apply to: Note 1: The conversion tables in Appendices B to G are based on empirical results obtained through regression analysis. Similar analysis cannot be performed on the conversion table in Appendix A due to insufficient measurement results. Note 2: The information provided in Appendix H is about the impact of changing the test hardness procedure specified in the standard. The conversion values obtained using this standard can only be applied to the specific material being tested and are only a reference for other materials. In any case, the conversion values cannot replace the hardness values measured using the correct test method. Compared with the conversion between hardness values, the reliability of estimating tensile strength values using the conversion values of this standard is the lowest.
