Introduction

Analysis of the core content of the standard

This standard specifies the technical requirements for the cathodic protection system of steel structures, including key parameters such as minimum protection potential, maximum protection potential, IR drop correction, etc., and is applicable to soil, fresh water and sea water environments.

Comparison of cathodic protection system types

System type Applicable conditions Driving voltage Design life
Sacrificial anode system Soil resistivity <15Ω·m (zinc anode) or <150Ω·m (magnesium anode) 0.7-1.5V 5-15 years
Forced current system High resistivity environment, large pipeline network Adjustable (usually >2V) More than 20 years

Key technical requirements

1. Protection potential criteria

The minimum protection potential of steel structures in soil must meet the following requirements:

  • Aerobic environment: ≤-850mV (CSE)
  • Anoxic environment (including SRB): ≤-950mV (CSE)

Note: The IR drop error must be eliminated during measurement, and the instantaneous power-off method or polarization probe must be used.

2. Anode Selection Specifications

Appendix BD specifies the performance indicators of three types of sacrificial anodes in detail:

  • Aluminum alloy anode: Suitable for seawater environment, current efficiency ≥85%
  • Zinc alloy anode: Selected when soil resistivity is <15Ω·m
  • Magnesium alloy anode: High resistivity soil (≤150Ω·m)

Project Implementation Suggestions

  1. Soil resistivity survey is required in the design stage, and the 100mV polarization criterion of Clause 4.6.3 is used to verify the protection effect
  2. In the construction stage, the insulation device (>10MΩ) should be tested in accordance with the requirements of Clause 6.3
  3. Maintenance phase Test the output of the constant potential instrument every quarter and conduct a full line potential survey every year

Special environment treatment

For the stray current interference area (Clause 5.9.4.3), it is recommended to use:

  • Polarity drainage device
  • Deep well anode bed (burial depth > 15m)
  • Online monitoring system (Clause 7.4.6)
