Introduction

1. Background of standard formulation and analysis of technological evolution

This standard GB/T 34270-2017 "Gas chromatography method for the determination of polychlorinated biphenyls and hexachlorobenzene in feed" was formulated based on internationally accepted detection methods and combined with China's national conditions. Its main purpose is to standardize the detection process of toxic and hazardous substances in feed to ensure animal food safety and human health.

In terms of technological evolution, this standard adopts a high-efficiency and sensitive gas chromatography-electron capture detector (ECD) combination to replace the traditional spectrophotometry. This improvement significantly improves the detection sensitivity and accuracy, and can meet the detection needs of trace contaminants in feed.

2. Detection principles and methods

This standard specifies two extraction methods: Soxhlet extraction and rapid solvent extractor (ASE) extraction. Both methods are suitable for different types of feed samples, and the specific choice depends on the laboratory equipment conditions.

Gas chromatography-electron capture detector (ECD) is the core analytical instrument of this standard. Its working principle is: after the polychlorinated biphenyls and hexachlorobenzene in the sample are extracted and purified, they are separated on the gas chromatography column, and the target compounds are detected by the high sensitivity of ECD, and quantified by the external standard method.
