Introduction
GB/T 34749—2017 Standard Overview
GB/T 34749—2017 "Fire resistance test method for wood and wood composites - Cone calorimeter method" is my country's first standard for testing the fire resistance of wood and its composite materials, which specifies the detailed method of evaluating its fire resistance using a cone calorimeter.
Background of standard formulation and technological evolution
With the increasing demand for fireproof materials in the construction industry, wood and its composite materials are increasingly used in construction. However, the performance of wood materials in fire is complex, involving heat release, mass loss, smoke generation and other aspects. In order to unify the test methods and ensure the comparability of data, my country has formulated this standard with reference to international advanced standards.
Technical requirements and test framework
| Test dimensions | Key indicators | Test methods | Standard requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cone calorimeter | Heat release rate (qA, kW/m²), total heat release per unit area (QA,tot, MJ/m²) | Radiative heating, record temperature and mass loss curve | In accordance with GB/T16172-2007 |
| Sample preparation | Dimension requirements (100±2mm×100±2mm), thickness range (≤50mm) | Conditioning and surface treatment | Ensuring uniformity and representativeness |
| Test procedure | Ignition time, continuous burning time | Radiation heating to 240°C, recording the temperature rise of the back-fired surface | Termination condition: the back-fired surface temperature reaches 140°C or the sample is completely destroyed |
Explanation of professional terms and practical application cases
Cone Calorimeter: A device used to measure the combustion characteristics of materials. By controlling the heating source and the smoke collection system, key parameters such as heat release rate and mass loss are obtained.
Net heat of combustion (△hc, kJ·g⁻¹): In the test, the energy released by the complete combustion of a unit mass of the sample reflects the combustion characteristics of the material.
Implementation Suggestions
Equipment Selection and Calibration:It is recommended to use thermocouples and cone calorimeters that meet the GB/T16839.1 standard, and calibrate them regularly to ensure measurement accuracy.
Specimen Preparation and Processing:Cut the specimens strictly in accordance with the standard requirements, control the thickness tolerance (≤0.02mm), and record the initial mass and dimensional parameters.
Data Collection and Analysis:It is recommended to use automated software to record the test process and calculate key indicators such as heat release rate and mass loss rate according to GB/T16172-2007.
