3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 20042.1, GB/T 24499 and GB/T 24548 and the following apply.

3.1
fuel cell hydrogen supply system
assembly of equipment that supplies hydrogen for fuel cells and is related to production, storage and supply of hydrogen

3.2
hydrogen storage vessel
vessel for containing hydrogen or hydrogen storage materials, which does not include any accessories placed or embedded inside or outside the vessel

3.3
hydrogen production material
material that produces hydrogen by itself or through physical or chemical processes with other materials

3.4
hydrogen production equipment
equipment that produces hydrogen through the physical or chemical processes of hydrogen production material

Note: The equipment includes a filling port of hydrogen production material.

4 System classification

According to different chemical forms of the hydrogen stored, the hydrogen supply system may be classified into:

——Hydrogen supply system for proton exchange membrane fuel cells that stores hydrogen in gaseous elemental form, that is, the system that stores hydrogen in hydrogen storage vessel and directly supplies hydrogen for fuel cell, consisting of the following single equipment or devices: hydrogen storage vessel, hydrogen pipeline, stop valve, pressure reducing valve, pressure relief device, heat exchange device, monitoring device and other auxiliary devices, etc. The structural diagram is shown in Figure 1. The pipe fitting assembly in the figure includes components, pipelines and joints that are in direct contact with hydrogen or become part of the hydrogen supply system, and may be composed of metal and nonmetal pipe fittings.

——Hydrogen supply system for proton exchange membrane fuel cells that stores hydrogen in compound form, that is, the system that uses hydrogen production material, mainly including metal hydrogen storage compounds, liquid organic hydrogen storage compounds, ammonia hydrogen storage compounds, methanol, liquid water, etc., to prepare hydrogen through physical or chemical processes so as to supply hydrogen to fuel cells, consisting of the following devices: hydrogen production reaction device, protective cover/shell, radiator, hydrogen purification device, gas buffer device, pipeline, monitoring device and other auxiliary devices, etc. The structural diagram is shown in Figure 2.

5 Technical requirements

5.1 General requirements

5.1.1 General

The fuel cell hydrogen supply system shall meet the technical requirements for the scale and quality of hydrogen of fuel cells and be reasonably configured. The design, manufacture, inspection and acceptance of single equipment or devices, pipe fittings and materials used shall meet the requirements of relevant standards.

5.1.2 Vibration and impact

The fuel cell hydrogen supply system shall be able to resist vibration and impact to a certain extent, so as to ensure that the vibration and impact generated during normal use, transportation or storage will not damage the components of the hydrogen supply system. Anti-vibration facilities may be installed to avoid adverse effects caused by vibration and impact, including vibration and impact caused by single and auxiliary equipment in the system itself, as well as by external environment.

After subjected to adverse vibration and impact, the hydrogen supply system shall meet the requirements of 6.2.1 and 6.2.2, and preventive measures shall be taken to ensure the safety of person and property.

5.1.3 Material selection

The fuel cell hydrogen supply system is in direct or indirect contact with hydrogen, so it shall be compatible with hydrogen, and the selected materials shall meet the following requirements:

——Under all use conditions, the materials shall have necessary chemical stability, and free of various forms of chemical reactions during use to avoid polluting the hydrogen. Hydrogen brittleness, hydrogen corrosion, stress corrosion and other forms of corrosion shall be avoided as much as possible. The hydrogen brittleness resistance of the selected materials may be tested in accordance with ISO 11114-4.

——The materials shall adapt to the changes of the physical environment of hydrogen supply system, meet the requirements of various mechanical properties, and maintain stable mechanical properties under use conditions.

——The materials of non-metal pipelines and related fittings shall meet the requirements of corresponding standards.
