Introduction
Interpretation of the National Standard of the People's Republic of China GB/T 35339—2017 Banana Fusarium Wilt Monitoring Specification
I. Background and Significance of Standard Formulation
Banana Fusarium wilt is caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Race 4 (race 4), which is an important quarantine disease threatening the global banana industry. This standard aims to standardize the monitoring procedures and methods for the disease in my country's banana-growing areas to ensure early detection and early control of the epidemic.
II. Scope of application of the standard
This standard applies to:
- Epidemic monitoring of banana crops such as banana, pink banana and plantain
- Survey on diseases caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Race 4
- Plant quarantine work in relevant areas
III. Monitoring basis and methods
The monitoring basis combines field symptom observations and laboratory identification results. The following are the core monitoring methods:
| Monitoring steps | Specific requirements | Implementation standards |
|---|---|---|
| Visit and investigate | Learn about the disease situation from growers and agricultural technicians, and record suspected symptoms | GB/T 35339—2017 |
| Survey | Conduct on-site inspections of suspicious areas, with an area of no less than 50% | GB/T 35339—2017 |
| Seedling farm investigation | The five-point sampling method is adopted, and the sampling ratio is determined according to the number of seedlings (100 plants are sampled if the number is less than 10,000 plants) | GB/T 23622-2009 |
IV. Recommendations for the implementation of the standard
To ensure the effective implementation of monitoring work, it is recommended that:
- Strengthen the training of grassroots quarantine personnel
- Establish a regional joint defense mechanism
- Improve the epidemic information sharing platform
Case study: Monitoring practice in a banana planting area
In a banana planting area in Guangdong Province, through the implementation of this standard, the suspected symptoms of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Race 4 were successfully discovered, and quarantine measures were taken in time to effectively control the spread of the epidemic.
