GB/T 35501-2017 Interpretation of the Standard for Industrial Methyltrimethoxysilane

1. Background and Significance of Standard Formulation

Industrial methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) is an important chemical product, which is widely used in organic synthesis, electronic materials, coatings and other fields. In order to standardize product quality and technical requirements and ensure its safety and applicability, the national standard GB/T 35501-2017 came into being.

The standard was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation and managed by the Organic Chemical Industry Branch of the National Technical Committee for Chemical Standardization, which fully reflects the authority and representativeness of the industry.

2. Scope and applicability of the standard

This standard applies to methyltrimethoxysilane prepared from monomethyltrichlorosilane and methanol through alcoholysis, neutralization and distillation. Its structural formula is:

3.1 Application of gas chromatography

Gas chromatograph (with hydrogen flame ionization detector) is used to separate and quantitatively analyze the samples. It is recommended to use a capillary column (dimethylpolysiloxane, 30m×0.32mm×1.0μm), and the typical operating conditions are as follows:

  • Vaporization chamber temperature: 250℃
  • Detector temperature: 260℃
  • Column box temperature: initial 50℃, heating to 180℃ at 20℃/min

During sample handling, care should be taken to avoid contact with air to ensure the accuracy of the analysis results. The mass fraction of each component is calculated by the area normalization method, and the relative deviation of parallel determinations should be controlled within the specified range.

4. Safety and Protection Recommendations

Methyltrimethoxysilane is dangerous to a certain extent. Its flash point is 11°C and its vapor and air can form an explosive mixture. Users should:

  • Keep away from open flames and high temperature areas
  • Wear protective equipment (such as gloves, goggles)
  • Ensure good ventilation and avoid prolonged contact

To ensure that product quality meets the requirements of GB/T 35501-2017, manufacturers should:
