1. Standard Overview

GB/T 35640—2017 "Public Transportation Navigation Data Model and Exchange Format" is the first standard formulated for public transportation navigation system in China. It mainly regulates the data structure and exchange method of core elements such as bus stops, routes, and enterprises. The standard was proposed by the National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation and is managed by the National Technical Committee for Geographic Information Standardization.

3. Analysis of core data elements

Taking Bus POI (station/entrance/exit) as an example, the standard defines the following key fields in detail:

  • POI number: unique identifier, encoded in 32-bit integer.
  • Type code: distinguishes stations and entrances and exits (0000: initial value; 0001: station; 0002: entrance and exit).
  • Display coordinates: longitude and latitude location data, used for visualization of navigation electronic maps.

4. Analysis of Technology Evolution

Compared with the traditional bus dispatching system, GB/T 35640—2017 introduces the standardization concept of modern geographic information system (GIS):

  • Spatial data support: For the first time, spatial geometric data is standardized in public transportation navigation to improve positioning accuracy.
  • Multi-language extension: The language code field enables multi-language display of POI names (supporting simplified and traditional Chinese and international phonetic symbols).
  • Deepening of associated information: Strengthens the association between stations, routes and enterprises, making it easier to build a complete transportation network.

  1. Data cleaning: Ensure that the existing bus station and route data comply with the Permanent Identification (PID) coding rules.
  2. System docking: Develop an adaptation module to support the import and export functions of standard formats.
  3. Service optimization: Combine with the GIS platform to improve the positioning accuracy and service response speed of the public transportation navigation system.
