Conversion methods for energy consumption of electric vehicles

1 Scope

This standard provides a method for converting electric energy consumption equivalent into fuel consumption of electric vehicles.

This standard is applicable to battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

2 Normative references

The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this standard. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

GB/T 18386 Electric vehicles - Energy consumption and range - Test procedures
GB/T 19233 Measurement methods of fuel consumption for light-duty vehicles
GB/T 19596 Terminology of electric vehicles
GB/T 19753 Test methods for energy consumption of light-duty hybrid electric vehicles
GB/T 19754 Test methods for energy consumption of heavy-duty hybrid electric vehicles

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 19596 and the following apply.

3.1

fuel energy factor

the fuel volume with the same calorific value as the unit quantity of electricity (1 kW·h = 3,600 kJ), calculated according to GB/T 2589, GB 17930, GB 19147, in L/(kW h)

3.2

efficiency factor

the ratio of the energy consumed for power generation to that consumed by the vehicle, with the consideration of the factors such as the energy conversion efficiency of the power transmission, distribution and generation

3.3

line loss rate

the percentage of electricity lost during the transmission and distribution (transformation) to the power supply volume

3.4

charge efficiency

the ratio of the electric energy input into the power battery to that from the power grid

3.5

power supply efficiency

the ratio of the heat quantity converted from the electric quantity that the generator set has supplied to the grid to the input heat quantity

3.6

refining efficiency

the ratio of the heat quantity from refined oil products to the sum of the heat quantity from crude oil and that consumed for refining

3.7

transport efficiency

the ratio of the amount of fuel filled in the vehicle to that output by the refinery

3.8

CO2 emission factor

the amount of carbon dioxide generated by a unit of energy during combustion or use

3.9

thermal power ratio

the ratio of thermal power generation to total power generation

4 Calculation and determination of electric energy consumption of different vehicle types

As for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles using gasoline/diesel, the electric energy consumption shall be converted into equivalent gasoline/diesel consumption; as for battery electric vehicles, the electric energy consumption shall be converted into equivalent gasoline/diesel consumption. See Annex A for the parameters used in the above calculations.

5 Calorific value conversion method

5.1 Simple conversion method

Calculate the equivalent fuel consumption (FC) of electric energy with Formula (1):

FC=E×FE (1)

where,

FC—— the equivalent fuel consumption, L/100 km, with the value rounded off to two decimal places;

E—— the electric energy consumption of the vehicle, kW·h/100 km, measured according to GB/T 18386, GB/T 19233, GB/T 19753, GB/T 19754, with the value rounded off to two decimal places;

FE—— the energy factor of fuel, L/(kW·h), with the value rounded off to four decimal places.
