Introduction
Standard Background and Technical Evolution
This standard was proposed by the National Coal Chemical Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC469) and established for the first time a systematic determination method for the three forms of sulfur in coke. Compared with the traditional total sulfur determination (GB/T2286), this standard can accurately distinguish the sulfur forms, which is of great significance to the quality control and environmental assessment of coke.

Key Operation Points
Typical Case of Sulfate Sulfur Determination
When a coking plant detected that the filtrate was yellow, it successfully eliminated the interference by adding aluminum powder 0.1g according to the standard 3.5.3. The experimental record shows: sample mass 1.0023g, barium sulfate precipitation 0.0231g, blank value 0.0008g, and the final sulfate sulfur content was 0.31% (in line with the repeatability requirements).
Precautions for determination of organic sulfur
- The residue after filtration needs to be dried at 105-150℃ to constant weight (mass change <0.005g)
- A blank test must be carried out simultaneously to eliminate the influence of sulfur content in filter paper
- The mass of filter paper needs to be corrected in the calculation formula (see standard formula 3)
Implementation suggestions
- Laboratory configuration: The muffle furnace should be equipped with a programmed temperature controller (constant temperature zone of 850±10℃)
- Safety protection: The hydrochloric acid boiling step should be carried out in a fume hood
- Data cross-validation: It is recommended that the deviation between the total sulfur determination (GB/T2286) and the sum of sulfur in various forms be ≤0.1%
Technical development prospects
This standard will for the first time include Sulfur form separation technology is applied in the coke field and may be expanded to:
1) Research on sulfur distribution in different coking processes
2) Accurate evaluation of desulfurization efficiency
3) Prediction of sulfur form in coke combustion emissions
