Introduction

Technical Background of the Standard

With the widespread application of organosilicon materials in textile auxiliaries, the problem of methylcyclosiloxane (D4/D5/D6) residues has attracted increasing international attention. As my country's first standard specifically for the detection of cyclosiloxane residues in textiles, this standard fills the technical gap in risk assessment of textile chemicals.

Typical case: A knitted product for export was notified by the EU for excessive D5 residues. The source was traced using this standard method and it was found to be caused by improper process control of silicone softener. The residual amount was reduced from 58.2mg/kg to 3.5mg/kg by optimizing the washing process.

The core equipment Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry must meet the following requirements:

  • Chromatographic column: TG5SilMS (30m×0.25mm×0.25μm)
  • Ion source temperature: 250℃
  • Scan mode: automatic switching between full scan (50-450m/z) and SIM mode

Implementation difficulties and solutions

Interference control:The laboratory needs to pay special attention to the background contamination that may be introduced by plastic utensils, silicone gaskets, etc. It is recommended that:

  1. Use glass extraction bottles
  2. The blank test value is strictly controlled below 0.05mg/L
  3. Operators should avoid using silicone-containing skin care products
