This document establishes a method for determining the critical energy threshold of charged particles penetrating the Earth's magnetosphere, focusing on:

  • Stiffness calculation based on the IGRF and Tsyganenko magnetic field models
  • Dynamic correction of magnetospheric disturbances (Kp index) and local time
  • Assessment of spacecraft radiation environment in the altitude range of 250-20000km

Example: Calculate the cutoff stiffness for an orbit altitude of 500 km (λ=30°,φ=120°) under the condition of Kp=4:

  1. Interpolate from the IGRF basic table to obtain R0=6.23GV
  2. Apply the height correction formula: R0H=6.23×(6371.2+450)2/(6371.2+500)2
  3. The final value Reff=5.73GV is obtained by Δ(R0,Kp=4,T=12h)=0.92
