Technology evolution analysis

This standard establishes the morphological identification system of double-hanging fruit segmental lobe of Codonopsis pilosula seeds for the first time, innovatively combining dissecting microscope observation (Figure 1) with conventional agronomic testing, and improving the accuracy of variety identification by 35% compared with traditional methods. The germination test condition with a temperature controlled at 15℃ is derived from a germination characteristic study conducted by Nanjing Agricultural University over a period of three years.


Implementation suggestions

Seed procurement: It is recommended to give priority to first-class seeds with a thousand-grain weight ≥5.0g. The sowing amount can be reduced by 20% to ensure the germination rate

Seedling transportation: Use breathable plastic baskets when transporting with soil. If the transportation time exceeds 8 hours, spray water to keep it moist

Storage management: The moisture content of seeds must be ≤12%. It is recommended to use silica gel desiccant to assist storage


Standard application case

After implementing this standard at a planting base in Bozhou, Anhui:
1. Through the tetrazole staining method to eliminate seeds with insufficient vitality, the survival rate of seedlings was increased from 72% to 89%
2. Transplanting according to root diameter classification increased the rate of high-quality three-year-old Codonopsis pilosula by 42%
