Introduction

1. Background and purpose of the standard

GB/T 42900-2023 "Metallic Materials High Strain Rate and High Temperature Compression Test Method" is to standardize the test of mechanical properties of metallic materials under high temperature and high strain rate conditions. This standard was proposed by the China Iron and Steel Association and is applicable to the determination of mechanical properties such as compressive stress-strain curves of metallic materials at temperatures above room temperature and strain rates in the range of $10^{2}~\mathrm{s}^{-1}{\sim}10^{4}~\mathrm{s}^{-1}$.

2. Comparison of standard frameworks

Standard dimensions GB/T 42900—2023 Comparative analysis
Test equipment Separated Hopkinson pressure bar, high temperature heating control device, data test system Compared with GB/T 7314, special equipment requirements for high temperature and high speed conditions have been added.
Specimen requirements Cylinder, diameter is smaller than the waveguide rod diameter, recommended to be $80\%$ of the waveguide rod diameter Added dimensional tolerance and processing accuracy requirements under high temperature.
Test procedure Includes waveguide rod detection, sample installation and heating, load application and measurement records Detailed operating specifications under high temperature and high speed conditions.

3. Implementation suggestions

3.1 Data acquisition and processing

Under high temperature and high strain rate conditions, the sampling frequency of the data acquisition system must be no less than $1~\mathrm{MHz}$. It is recommended to use a bridge test system to improve measurement accuracy. The frequency response of the dynamic strain gauge must be higher than $500~\mathrm{kHz}$ to ensure that the signal is not distorted.

3.2 Temperature control

The high temperature heating control device must meet the temperature allowable deviation and temperature gradient requirements to ensure that the sample is heated evenly. It is recommended to use a combined heating method and control the cold contact time within $50~\mathrm{ms}$.

3.3 Abnormal handling

If data acquisition abnormalities occur during the test (such as signal limiting, noise interference), check the strain gauge wire connection and equipment settings, and recalibrate the measurement system if necessary.
