1. Background and significance of standard formulation

With the rapid development of science and technology and the need to improve the public's scientific literacy, the role of science and technology museums in popular science services has become increasingly important. GB/T 43394—2023 "Guidelines for the Functional Configuration of Science and Technology Museums" came into being, aiming to standardize the functional settings of science and technology museums at all levels and ensure that they can efficiently serve the public's popular science needs.

The standard was proposed by the China Association for Science and Technology and is managed by the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Popular Science Services. The background of its formulation mainly includes:
