《GB/T 4656-2008技术制图 棒料、型材及其断面的简化表示法》由TC146（全国技术产品文件标准化技术委员会）归口，主管部门为国家标准化管理委员会。
本标准是对图样画法和尺寸注法的补充规定，主要用于在装配图与详图上对棒料、型材及其断面的简化表示，涉及范围还包括：――由棒料、型材及其组合元件组成的金属构件,(包括：桥梁、构架、桩基等）；――起重和运输设备；――贮液罐和压力容器；――升降机、电梯、传送带等。本标准是对GB/T 4656.1-2000《技术制图 棒料、型材及其断面的简化表示法》的修订。
本标准从2000年发布以后，得到了广泛应用。本次修订主要是针对标准中发现的有关文字以及编辑上的一些问题，在对原标准的内容修改后编制而成的。
本标准代替GB/T 4656.1-2000《技术制图 棒料、型材及其断面的简化表示法》，主要修改的内容有：
――按照GB/T 1.1和本标准的内容要求，修改与增加了“范围”和“规范性引用文件”的内容；
――另外，还就标准中的相关内容做了文字上的修改。
原GB/T 4656.1-2000《技术制图 棒料、型材及其断面的简化表示法》国家标准是等同采用国际标准ISO 5261：1995《技术制图 棒料、型材及其断面的简化表示法》，该国际标准一直未修订，所以本次的对ISO 5261：1995《技术制图 棒料、型材及其断面的简化表示法》的一致性程序还仍为等同采用。

Scope

This standard is a supplementary regulation to the drawing method and dimensioning method. It is mainly used to simplify the representation of bars, profiles and their sections on assembly drawings and detailed drawings, and also includes: metal components composed of bars, profiles and their combined components (including: bridges, frames, pile foundations, etc. ); Lifting and transportation equipment; Liquid storage tanks and pressure vessels; Lifts, elevators, conveyor belts, etc.
