1 Scope
This standard specifies general terms of tyre for industrial purpose, and terms and definitions related to category of tyre, components of tyre, tread pattern, rim, tyre dimension, tyre performance and its test, tyre marking, appearance defects of tyre, type service, as well as tyre retread and repair.
It is applicable to passenger car tyre, light truck tyre, truck tyre, earth-mover tyre, agricultural tyre, industrial tyre, motorcycle tyre, cycle tyre and aircraft tyre.
2 General terms
2.1
tyre
a ring-shaped elastic product that is mounted on a vehicle wheel or machine, for driving automobile, engineering machinery, agricultural machinery, industrial vehicle, motorcycle, cycle vehicle and other vehicles and helping the aircraft take off /land, etc.
2.2
new tyre
tyre that has been neither used nor subjected to a retreading operation
2.3
grown tyre
tyre that has undergone expansion due to use in service
2.4
pneumatic tyre
tyre that needs the compressed gas or liquid in the inner cavity and is capable of keeping the pressure, including tube-tyre and tubeless tyre
2.5
solid tyre
tyre that has the materials of different performances filled in the carcass and is not equipped with inner cavity
2.6
tubeless tyre
pneumatic tyre that is not assembled with the inner tube
2.7
tube tyre
pneumatic tyre that needs the inner tube within the inner cavity of tyre cover, typically including cover, inner tube and flap
2.8
cover
outer shell of a tyre, capable of bearing various acting forces
2.9
inner tube
ring-shaped elastic tube that is used to keep the inner pressure and accompanied with inflating valve
2.10
flap
endless belt that protects the inner tube rim part against the wear by the rim
2.11
rim
component on the wheel for mounting and supporting the tyre
3 Category of tyre
3.1 Based on use
3.1.1
normal tyre
tyre intended for normal use
3.1.2
special tyre
tyre intended for special use, e.g. mixed use, both on and off road or for other strict speed limit
3.1.3
mud and snow tyre
tyre whose tread pattern and design are different from normal tyre and capable of achieving in snowy or muddy areas with a driving performance better than that of a normal tyre
3.1.4
temporary-use spare tyre
tyre different from the one intended to be fitted to a vehicle for normal driving conditions and intended only for temporary use under restricted driving conditions
3.1.5
T-type temporary-use spare tyre
temporary-use spare tyre designed for use at an inflation pressure higher than those established for standard and reinforced tyres
3.1.6
snow tyre
tyre whose tread pattern, rubber material of tread and structure are primarily designed to achieve in snowy and icy conditions with a performance better than that of a normal tyre with regard to its initiation, operation and braking performance
3.1.7
run flat tyre
pneumatic tyre that is designed to enable the vehicle to be driven at normal inflation condition and continue to be driven at certain speed under deflation condition for limited distances
3.1.8
self-supporting run flat tyre
pneumatic tyre that is designed to enable the vehicle to be driven at normal inflation condition and continue to be driven at certain speed under deflation condition for limited distances without the mounting of any other accessory parts
Note: One of the solution examples is the reinforced sidewall.
3.1.9
internal supporter tyre
tyre that has the supporter in the inner cavity of the cover
3.2 Based on structure
3.2.1
structure type
technical characteristics of the tyre carcass, e.g. diagonal (bias-ply), bias-belted and radial
3.2.2
diagonal/bias-ply tyre
