Scope
This standard defines the terms and relevant measured parameters of partial discharge, specifies the test circuits used, measurement circuits, general analog and digital measurement methods, and provides calibration methods and requirements for calibration equipment, test procedures, criteria to distinguish partial discharge from external interference. This standard applies to the measurement of partial discharges generated in electrical equipment, components, or systems under AC voltage tests at frequencies up to 400 Hz or DC voltage tests. The terms and conditions stipulated in this standard can be used for drafting specific technical requirements for measuring partial discharge in electrical equipment. This standard mainly covers electrical measurements of pulsed-type (short-duration) partial discharges, while also providing non-electrical measurement methods primarily used for locating partial discharges (see Appendix G). Diagnostic characteristics of specific power equipment may be diagnosed through digital processing of partial discharge signals (see Appendix F) and the aforementioned non-electrical measurement methods. This standard mainly elaborates on electrical measurement methods for partial discharge during AC voltage tests, while also addressing special issues arising from DC voltage tests (refer to Chapter 4). The terms, definitions, basic test circuits, and procedures in this standard generally apply to other frequency tests; however, specific test methods and characteristics of the measuring systems may be required, which are not considered in this standard.
Appendix B provides requirements for performance testing of calibrators as specified.
