1. Standard Overview

GB/T 8050-2017 is a national standard for polypropylene fiber ropes equivalent to the international standard ISO 1346:2012, and is applicable to polypropylene split film monofilament, multifilament (PP2) and high-strength multifilament (PP3) 3-, 4-, 8- and 12-strand ropes with a linear density of 6.51 ktex to 12180 ktex.

2. Main contents of the standard

2.1 Scope and applicability

This standard specifies the terminology definitions, marking requirements, general technical conditions and physical performance indicators of polypropylene split monofilament, multifilament (PP2) and high-strength multifilament (PP3) 3-strand, 4-strand, 8-strand and 12-strand ropes, and is applicable to polypropylene fiber ropes with a linear density of 6.51 ktex to 12180 ktex.

2.2 Terms and Definitions

Related terms are defined in accordance with ISO 1968, including "polypropylene split monofilament", "multifilament (PP2)" and "high-strength multifilament (PP3)", and the definitions of rope structure types (Type A, Type B, Type C, Type D) are clarified.

2.3 Labeling requirements

The fiber rope label shall include the product name (polypropylene monofilament/multifilament), standard number, rope structure type and reference code, for example: Fiber rope GB/T 8050-L-60-PP2.

3. Technical requirements and physical properties

3.1 Structural requirements

The rope shall be manufactured with Type A (3-strand), Type B (4-strand), Type C (8-strand) or Type D (12-strand) structure, and shall comply with the technical conditions specified in ISO 9554.

3.2 Physical performance indicators

The minimum breaking strength (MBF) and linear density requirements are detailed in Tables 1 to 3. The index values are determined based on the ISO 2307 standard test method. Different requirements are specified for the breaking strength of ropes that are not spliced and ropes with eyelets at both ends.

3.3 Key parameters

  • Linear density (ktex): It indicates the net mass of the rope per unit length and must comply with the specified value and deviation rate in the table;
  • Minimum breaking strength (MBF, kN): It is measured according to the test method, and the indicators of unspliced and eyelets at both ends are different;
  • Reference code (RN): It is equivalent to the rope diameter (mm), calculated by the formula RN = linear density × diameter.

4.1 Necessity of Standard Implementation

This standard comprehensively upgrades the technical requirements for polypropylene fiber ropes, unifies term definitions, refines product classifications and improves physical performance indicators, which will effectively enhance product quality and market competitiveness.

4.2 Suggested implementation steps

  1. Learning and training:Organize relevant personnel to learn the content of the new standard, especially the changes in terminology, identification requirements and technical parameters;
  2. Equipment upgrade:Ensure that the testing equipment meets the requirements of ISO 2307 standard, and calibrate or update the equipment when necessary;
  3. Product adjustment:Adjust the production process according to the new standard, especially the differentiation and assessment of PP2 and PP3 products;
  4. Quality monitoring:Establish an internal monitoring mechanism, and regularly sample and test key indicators such as linear density and minimum breaking strength;
  5. Record management:Improve product test records to ensure traceability.

4.3 Application fields
