This standard systematically upgrades the technical specifications of dispersion-shifted single-mode optical fiber (category B2), mainly to meet the stringent requirements of DWDM systems on optical fiber dispersion characteristics.

Dispersion characteristics optimization

The standard subdivides B2 type optical fiber into:

  • B2a type: 1525-1575nm dispersion ≤3.5ps/(nm·km)
  • B2b type: New 1460-1575nm nonlinear suppression indicator

Typical case: In C-band DWDM systems, B2b fiber can effectively suppress the four-wave mixing (FWM) effect by controlling the dispersion slope (≤0.085ps/(nm²·km)).


Implementation recommendations

  1. Maritime optical cable: It is recommended to select 200μm coated optical fiber, and special attention should be paid to the 10μm concentricity requirement
  2. Data center: B2b optical fiber is preferred, and its PMD coefficient of 0.2ps/√km is more suitable for 400G system
  3. Test verification: Attenuation uniformity test should be performed in accordance with GB/T33779.1 for 2000m segment evaluation

This part keeps technical synchronization with IEC 60793-2-50 and ITU-T G.653. For specific model correspondence, see Appendix A of the standard. It is worth noting that the technical indicators of B2b optical fiber have exceeded the requirements of G.653.A and reached the level of G.653.B.
