Introduction

Standard Revision Background and Scope of Application

GB/T9948-2013 is the latest national standard for seamless steel pipes for petroleum cracking, replacing the 2006 version of the standard. It is mainly used in furnace tubes, heat exchanger tubes and pressure pipes in the petrochemical industry. It has been converted into a recommended standard since 2017, but clauses 5.5 and 6.1.1 remain mandatory requirements.

Comparison of key technical changes

Revision dimensions GB/T9948-2006 GB/T9948-2013
Steel grades 9 types 7 new types including 12Cr1Mo, a total of 16 types
Delivery method Nominal wall thickness only Add minimum wall thickness delivery option
Testing requirements Basic non-destructive testing Add intergranular corrosion test and special requirements for H2S environment
International integration Reference to ASTM A335 and other 2 items Added EN10216-2 and other 3 international standards

Analysis of core technical requirements

1. Dimension and tolerance system

The standard adopts a dual-track tolerance system:

  • Conventional grade: Suitable for general working conditions, tolerance ±0.50mm when outer diameter ≤54mm
  • Advanced: For precision application scenarios, the tolerance of the same specification is tightened to ±0.30mm

Newly added example of calculation of allowable deviation of minimum wall thickness delivery method: When Smin=4.0mm of 12Cr1MoV steel pipe, +0.90mm is allowed for ordinary grade.

2. Material Property Matrix

Comparison of Mechanical Properties of Typical Steels:

Grade Tensile Strength (MPa) Yield Strength (MPa) Impact Energy (J)
20 410-550 245 40
12Cr1MoV 470-640 255 40
07Cr19Ni10 ≥520 205 -

Technical requirements for special applications

Special steel pipes for H2S environments

For hydrogen sulfide environments, the standard specifies special requirements in Appendix B:

  1. Carbon equivalent CEV≤0.42%, strictly control P≤0.015%
  2. Upper limit of hardness 190HBW, yield strength ≤345MPa
  3. Surface defect depth ≤0.4mm

Special requirements for stainless steel pipes

Austenitic stainless steels such as 07Cr19Ni11Ti must pass:

  • Solution treatment (≥1050℃ rapid cooling)
  • Intergranular corrosion test (GB/T4334 method E)
  • Total number of non-metallic inclusions ≤6.5

Implementation suggestions

Selection guide:For high temperature conditions, 12Cr9MoNT (590-740MPa) is preferred, and 022Cr17Ni12Mo2 is selected for corrosive environments.

Acceptance points:

  1. Check heat treatment records (normalizing temperature deviation ≤20℃)
  2. Pay attention to the impact energy conversion of small-size specimens (5mm specimens are calculated as 50%)
  3. Wall thickness measurement adopts multi-point detection of ultrasonic thickness gauge
