Introduction

Standard Background and Industry Value

As the first special specification for dried lavender in the supply and marketing cooperative industry, this standard fills the gap in the standard of aromatic plant processing in my country. Its release and implementation is of milestone significance for standardizing the lavender industry with an annual output of 38,000 tons in major production areas such as Xinjiang.

Core quality indicator system

Indicator type Required parameters Testing method Industry comparison
Sensory indicators No mildew, insect pests, typical aroma Sensory evaluation Stricter than EU EC No 1334/2008
Physical and chemical indicators Volatile oil≥1.5mL/100g GB/T 30385 Equivalent to ISO 3515:2002
Safety indicators Moisture content ≤8.0% GB 5009.3 10% higher than the food grade standard

Analysis of key technical points

4.1 Plant morphology specification

The standard accurately defines dried lavender as the inflorescence of the plant of the genus Lavandula (Lavandula angustifolia Mill) in the family Lamiaceae, requiring that the flower branches account for 1/3-1/2 and the four-prism feature of the stem is obvious. This is significantly different from the French Provence variety:

  • The inflorescence length of the Chinese variety is 40-60cm (the French variety is usually 30-50cm)
  • The corolla length is 3-6mm (the French variety is 2-4mm)

4.5 Determination of volatile oil

When using the steam distillation method (GB/T 30385) for determination, please note:

  1. The sample crushing degree must pass through a 500μm sieve
  2. The distillation time is controlled at 2 hours±5 minutes
  3. The receiver needs to be pre-rinsed with ether

Implementation and application suggestions

Processing link control

An enterprise in Yili, Xinjiang met the standards through the following measures:

  • Adopting 40℃ gradient drying technology, the moisture content is controlled at 7.2-7.8%
  • The color sorter removes stem and leaf impurities, and foreign matter is reduced to 1.3%
  • Nitrogen-filled packaging prolongs the retention rate of volatile oil

Trade precautions

Exporters should pay attention to:

  1. Ash content testing must indicate the dry state standard (≤12.0%)
  2. Packaging labels must comply with GB 7718 and the dual standards of the importing country
  3. Transportation temperature and humidity records must be kept for ≥2 years
