Scope

This standard specifies the sodium sulfite spectrophotometric method for the determination of TNT in water. This standard applies to the determination of TNT in industrial wastewater discharged during the production and use of powdered ammonium ladder explosives. When the sample volume is 10.0 ml and a 30 mm cuvette is used, the detection limit of the method is 0.1 mg/L, and the determination range is 0.4 to 10 mg/L. For samples whose TNT concentration is higher than the upper limit of the method, they can be measured after appropriate dilution.
