Background of Standard Revision and Technological Evolution

As the replacement standard for HJ 609-2011, HJ 609-2019 mainly upgrades the technical requirements for hexavalent chromium water quality automatic online monitoring instrument.

  • Strengthening of environmental protection regulations: Responding to the new requirements for heavy metal monitoring in the Environmental Protection Law and the Water Pollution Prevention and Control Law
  • Improvement of technical defects: Addressing the deficiencies of the 2011 version of the standard in terms of on-site applicability and data validity
  • Changes in monitoring needs: Adapting to the stricter chromium pollution control needs in surface water/industrial wastewater monitoring

4.1 Instrument composition architecture

The standard requires that the hexavalent chromium online monitor must include four core units:

  1. Sampling/metering unit: using corrosion-resistant materials such as polytetrafluoroethylene, sampling error ≤±1%
  2. Reagent storage unit: the reagent storage capacity must support ≥168 tests (7 days)
  3. Analysis unit: reaction module temperature control accuracy ±0.5℃, detection module signal-to-noise ratio ≥100:1
  4. Control unit: data storage ≥12 months, with three-level authority management

5.5 Key detection methods

Case: Comparison detection of actual water samples
The water sample from the discharge outlet of an electroplating plant (Cr6+ concentration 0.15mg/L) was selected and the following were used:
- Standard method (HJ 908) measurement value: 0.147±0.003mg/L

Implementation suggestions

Key points for equipment selection

  • Give priority to equipment that has passed CMA certification and meets IP52 protection level
  • Check the actual measurement report of the instrument's memory effect index (≤±10%)
  • Confirm that it has the HJ 212 protocol docking capability

Operation and maintenance management requirements

  1. Compare actual water samples every month (at least 3 concentration points)
  2. Test the ambient temperature stability (5-40℃ range) every quarter
  3. Establish a data identification system (M/D/C/SC classification records)
