Scope

1.1 This standard is applicable to the determination of the content of phosphorus, sulfur, calcium and zinc additive elements in unused lubricating oil. The measurement range of each element is shown in Table 1. 1.2 This standard is limited to the use of energy dis ersive x-ray fluorescence spectrometers. The instrument uses an x-ray tube as an excitation source and is able to dis inguis signals from adjacent elements. 1.3 This standard uses an inter-element correction factor, which is calculated from empirical correction data. 1.4 This standard is not applicable to the determination of magnesium content and copper content in lubricating oil. 1.5 This standard is not applicable to the determination of lubricating oils containing chlorine or barium additives. 1.6 This standard is applicable to ordinary operators, and it can be used as a routine test method for quality control analysis 1.7 This standard covers certain hazardous materials, operations, and equipment, but does not provide recommendations on all safety is ues related thereto. Therefore, it is necessary for users to establis appropriate safety precautions and determine appropriate management systems before using this standard.
